As mentioned in the previous blog, well-being is simply the feeling of being well. It is important because it helps individuals overcome obstacles and maintain a sense of security. Mental health has a vital role in the feeling of being well. Mental and emotional health are an essential part of our overall health and wellbeing, which is why it is needed that we focus our attention on it.
Mental wellbeing does not mean being happy all the time. It is more about our sense of security, our ability to deal with things, and overcome problems. It also means that an individual has some sense of their full potential.
We understand why it is important to take care of our mental health, and that our overall well-being is heavily depended on our mental health. Keeping that in mind, let's discuss what we can do to maintain that well-being and what precautions we can take to stop it from deteriorating.
It is common knowledge that our body and mind are related, which makes taking care of our body the first way of maintaining well being. Eating healthy food, giving our body sufficient exercise, and keeping it clean are some ways we can take care of our body. Having a nice, clean body will make you feel refreshed and may motivate you to have a fruitful day ahead.
Smoking, consuming alcohol are some things to avoid for well being. Not only do they harm the body, they also disturb our minds. It is advisable to steer clear of such harmful habits. Obviously, it won’t happen in a day. Leaving these habits is a process, and will take time, but what is important is that we try.
Next thing you can do is spending time outdoors. These days it is difficult to do so, because of the pandemic, but spending even some time in the sunlight and fresh air everyday can significantly boost your mental health. Another thing to avoid, is too much exposure to upsetting news. We are consuming much more of social media, and news than we ever have. It doesn’t have just physical consequences, but it can also mentally drain you out. Seeing the world suffer in so many ways can be distressing and while it’s important to keep up with the events of the world, it is more important to take care of yourself and your well being. So, cut your screen time and news consumption if it is too much for your mental wellbeing.Instead of spending time on our phones, scrolling miles and miles on social media, we can instead talk to family and friends, either through video calls or personally. We can start journaling. Maintaining a journal can be a good way of relieving stress. Other things that help with mental being are doodling, writing, painting, singing, or any other creative way you choose to release pressure and feel better. Keeping busy doing things you enjoy is a good way of maintaining mental peace.
It is also extremely important to make sure you’re not putting too much pressure on yourself to do things. If you don’t feel well, take a day off. Let yourself feel your emotions, do what makes you feel better. We are living in stressful times and maybe these things won’t make you feel better, but you should remember that the most important thing for you to do these days is survive. Don’t stress yourself out about the things you have to do but haven’t done, don’t feel a compulsion to be productive all the time.
What we have mentioned in the blog are just suggestions. It is not imperative that they will work on you, and if they don’t, take your time to figure out what does.
